Effect of Tangguisusan aqua - acupuncture and Acupuncture on the Intravascular Coagulation Induced by Endotoxin in Rats



Abstract
This study was performed to investigate the effects of Tangguisusan(TGSS) aqua-acupuncture and Acupuncture on the intravascular coagulation in rats.
The intravascular coagulation was induced by endotoxin injection into the caudal vein of rats and TGSS aqua-acupuncture, Acupuncture and Normal Saline(NOSA) aqua-acupuncture were treated into the bilateral loci corresponding to Choksamni (ST36) of human body everyday for three days to measure the numbers of platelet, fibrinogen, prothrombin time, fibrin-fibrinogen degradation product(FDP), hematocrit and red blood cell(RBC).
The results were obtained as follows.
1. The platelet number was increased with statistical significance at the TGSS aqua-acupuncture group as compared with the control group.
2. The fibrinogen level was increased with statistical significance at the TGSS aqua-acupuncture group as compared with the control group.
3. The hematocrit percentage was increased with statistical significance at the Acupuncture group as compared with the control group.
4. The FDP was decreased with statistical significance at the TGSS aqua-acupuncture group as compared with the control group.
5. The RBC was increased with statistical significance at the TGSS aqua-acupuncture group as compared with the control group.
6. The prothrombin time was decreased with statistical significance at the TGSS aqua-acupuncture and Acupuncture group as compared with the control group.
It is concluded that TGSS aqua-acupuncture and Acupuncture have significant effects on the on the intravascular coagulation induced by endotoxin in rats. Therefore, TGSS aqua-acupuncture and Acupuncture seem to be applicable to the diseases related to intravascular coagulopathy in clinics.
